ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Prakash Thapliyal is a journalist and writer. He has translated number of English books on Uttarakhand, including ‘Himalayan Gazetteer’ by ET Atkinson, ‘Gazetteer of Dehradun‘ and ‘Gazetteer of Garhwal Himalaya‘ both by H.G Walton, ‘Man Eating Leopard of Rudraprayag’ by Jim Corbett, ‘Customary Law in Kumaun’ by Panna Lal, ICS and Oscar Wilde’s famous stories in hindi. The author has also published its own books – ‘Pahar ki Pagdandiyan’ and ‘Kavita ka Ganit’. An advocate of Indian languages, he has abridged the linguistic Survey of India by GA Grierson under the title, ‘Languages in Uttarakhand – Garhwali, Kumauni, Nepali and Jaunsari‘ to facilitate interface among these languages largely spoken in Uttarakhand.
