This well researched book by Dr. Yogesh Dhasmana gives the historical account of Uttarakhand from 1815 to 1947. From the pact of Singoli in December 1815 which resulted in division of Garhwal, the Coolie Baigaar Movement in earlier years of 20^th century to the impact of Gandhism on masses in 1930s and 1940s has been covered in the book.

The work is mainly focused on Garhwal region, but to understand the situation in Garhwal the impact of events occurring in Kumaon are also described, simultaneously. The socio-economic and political events in Garhwal are tried to be look from the viewpoint of Indian freedom struggle.
