Sarla Devi, famously known as Sarla Behen (Catherine Mary Heilman) was a Gandhian social activist worked in Uttarakhand. She was a key member who helped in the evolution of Chipko movement. She was also known as one of the two English daughters of Mahatma Gandhi. Her women empowerment works in Kumaon leads to setup Lakshmi Ashram in Kausani.
